No meat of cloned animals in Belgium !
On August 9, the UK has informed the European Rapid Alert System of the export to Belgium of meat of a 2 year old bull, that was slaughtered on May 5 and descended from a cloned cow.

The British authorities have wrongfully considered this as an infraction on Regulation (CE) No. 258/97 on novel foods and novel food ingredients.

On demand of the FASFC, the European Commission services have notified the following correction to all Members States on August 11:
“foods derived from offspring of cloned animals are conventional foods and hence no specific measures apply”.

The FASFC has requested the Commission to withdraw the British notification that should never have been published on the RASSF-system, even not as an information..
